North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

Not to be confused with the John Jakes Civil War novel of the same name, this novel is set in Victorian England at the height of the Industrial Revolution. It is a gentle love story between two people from vastly different backgrounds; it reminded me of Pride and Prejudice. If you have a chance to see the BBC adaptation for TV, be sure to check it out.

I loved this, and I also loved her book Wives and Daughters. I also love both mini-series. Wonderful suggestion!!!

The BBC adaptation with Richard Armitage was unbelievably good and probably my favourite period series.

The rules for watching it are,
watch all 4 hours in one go
Preferably without children/partners coming in making comments
With chocolate and tissues on the side.

Pure magic. No one does it better than the BBC.
